How MCVertt's Beat for "Just Wanna Rock" Took Jersey Club Mainstream
Lil Uzi Vert's 2022 single wasn't a rap song or a rock song. It was Jersey club, co-produced by a teenager from Newark.

Lil Uzi Vert released "Just Wanna Rock" in October 2022 as the lead single from the album that became Pink Tape (2023). By then it already had serious momentum on TikTok, where Uzi had teased it before release.
Stereogum summed it up in one line.
“Uzi has gone full Jersey club on this one.”
The track runs about two minutes and is driven by rhythm and movement rather than verses. That made it a natural fit for dance videos.
Who produced it
The beat came from Synthetic, who had worked with Yeat, and MCVertt, a 19-year-old Jersey club producer from Newark and a member of Project X, the Jersey collective of producers, dancers and artists.
What it did for Jersey club
"Just Wanna Rock" peaked at No. 10 on the Billboard Hot 100. By December 2022, Complex counted more than 70 million Spotify streams and 17 million views on the video. It put a Newark production style in front of a mainstream audience that had never heard the name Jersey club, twenty years after the sound first took shape. Our history of Jersey club music covers how it got there.
