Jersey Club in 2026: Labs, Club Noise and Faster Tempos
More than 20 years in, Jersey club is less one style than a family of them. These are the traditions and sub-styles moving it forward.
By Jersey Club Radio · 2026-09-29
Jersey club started out as Brick City club in Newark in the early 2000s, a local take on the Baltimore club sound. Today it covers several styles that share the same roots.
The core sound
The foundation hasn't moved much. Bass-heavy 808 triplet drums sit in sync with gun clicks and squeaky bed samples, usually around 130 BPM. Pioneers like DJ Tameil, whose early releases on his own Anthrax Records label helped set the template, and crews like the Brick Bandits laid it down.
Crews and collectives
The Brick Bandits also helped start a run of Jersey club supergroups, including Project X, Twerknation28, 4KAE and Anthem Gxds. The current scene includes UNIIQU3, DJ Sliink, R3LL, Andy pls and MANIIA.
What a lab is
A lab, short for collab, is a track where several producers each make their own section. It suits a scene where everyone has a signature sound and wants it heard.
Faster and louder
Tempos keep going up. Newer variants run at 170 to 180 BPM, and a sub-style called #ClubNoise, started by markds, uses distorted 808s and fast, sharp chopping.
“Jersey Club is that bass you feel in your chest the second it hits.”
You can hear all of this changing week to week. Many of the tracks on the Rising Now chart are flips, remixes and labs uploaded in just the last few weeks. For the backstory, start with our history of Jersey club music.
